Research Supervision

I have supervised research at graduate and postdoctoral levels.

I started supervising research students at the University of Birmingham where I also ran an MA programme. Three of my doctoral students have successfully completed their project and are now pursuing their academic careers. I am currently supervising or co-supervising two other PhD candidates funded by the AHRC M4C consortium. I also sit on two dissertation committees in France.

Anxious to ensure my PhD students work in the best possible conditions and maximize their career prospects, I strive to secure funding as well as teaching and publication opportunities for them. I am also keen to enhance the academic experience and employability of my research students by operating in a collaborative setting. I therefore initiated and oversaw the creation of Dual Doctoral Degree Programmes (cotutelle) between the universities of Birmingham, Warwick and Sciences Po in Paris.

Since 2011, I have also supervised 6 postdoctoral researchers who have all since gone on to permanent academic positions.

I am interested to hear from potential postgraduate student or postdoctoral researcher interested in urban history, critical disaster studies, in British and European history, and in transnational and comparative approaches to urban crises or military conflicts.
